Monday Morning PR Minute ⏱️Your weekly dose of PR inspiration | Read time: 1 minute | Hi Reader, You've got a board or leadership update on the calendar, and I'm guessing you plan to walk through everything you did this quarter:
But none of those numbers tell leadership whether your work is moving the organization toward anything they actually care about. I'm currently helping a large social services organization with this exact thing. Their marcomm role had become a catch-all for whatever needed doing - update the website, send the newsletter, post on social - and we've been rebuilding the role to clearly support the organization's actual goals instead. This Week’s Quick PR Tip: Show Them the Strategic Thread, Not Your Task ListBefore you create your next leadership update, start with your organization's top 2 or 3 priorities. Every task on your list should trace back to one of those priorities - if it doesn't, that's a sign to question whether it's something you should be doing at all. Go through each bullet point in your update and rewrite it so the goal comes first, followed by the task. Showing leadership that your work directly impacts what they care about most builds the case you'll need when you ask for more time, budget, or another person on your team. If you swapped one bullet on your next update to lead with the goal instead of the task, which one would you start with? Monday Morning PR Minute ⏱️ Your weekly dose of PR inspiration | Read time: 1 minute | Hi Reader, Your story just ran in the media, so you share the link with leadership and then... that's it. The team is happy, the moment passes, and the coverage sits on your press page where almost nobody who matters most ever finds it. The instinct is to chase the next media hit and get new people to discover you. Sure, that's a real win - it's just not the only one. This Week’s Quick PR Tip: Make Sure the...
Monday Morning PR Minute ⏱️ Your weekly dose of PR inspiration | Read time: 1 minute | Hi Reader, You have difficult news to share with your community or customers, and every instinct is telling you to wait and hope no one notices. I've had two client conversations this month around this same thing. One had bad news to share with the people they serve and kept rewriting the message until it barely said anything. For another client, we were pitching a feel-good story, but they wanted us to...
Monday Morning PR Minute ⏱️ Your weekly dose of PR inspiration | Read time: 1 minute | Hi Reader, When was the last time something new got added to your overstuffed workload - today, maybe? Both run their entire marketing and communications department for large nonprofits, solo. One's so buried in day-to-day tasks and requests she can't...
